This Children’s Day Kanpur Times talks to celebrity children about the ease and angst they experience through their journey in Bollywood.
Aditya Narayan, who has made it big as an anchor on the show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa says, “People have pre-conceived notions about celeb sons and daughters.

It’s like: ‘He must have had it easy; let him prove himself before we accept him.’ The truth is that though one’s entry in the chosen field is easier, sustaining and meeting expectations becomes tougher with each passing day. At times, star kids also face an identity crises when they want to carve out a separate identity for themselves.”
It’s not that only children from non-filmi background experience refusals and waiting in queue for hours but children of celebrities too have also gone through this gruelling process!
Model turned entrepreneur Durga Jasraj, daughter of Pant Jasraj informs, “Since I have a strong inclination towards music, I wanted to produce a musical show for one of the channels. For this purpose I wanted a half-an-hour slot. But after lot of meetings, phone calls and discussions I was given to host one of their promos to begin with! I never got anything on a platter. Initially, one may get a chance but in the later it is only the substance that matters.”

Ditto for Riama Sen who took years to get rid of the ‘Moon Moon Sen’s daughter’ tag. Shares Raima, “I would say that celebrity kids face a lot more competition and are criticised more. In Kolkata I was compared for every small thing I did in Chokher Bali with my maternal grandmother. Now people know me as Raima Sen and I know the kind of struggle I went through for this.”
However, the better half of actor Anupam Kher and a brilliant actor herself, Kirron Kher believes that both entry and exit are very easy for celebrity children.
She elaborates, “Not just as parents but even as actors, Anupam and I are very critical of each other’s work. If we were not so sure of Sikandar’s acting skills we would have told him long back to take up some other career. But he is an honest performer and gives in his best. People feel that life is cakewalk for star kids but the kind of comparison, struggle and identity crises children go through at times is shocking. I would not like to take names but today most of the star kids are facing the brunt of being compared not with their colleagues but with their successful parents.”
